Harry's Story
Harry's family visited Ben's Retreat in April 2024.
Hello, my name is Annabel and I have been following your page for quite some time.
We are sadly a bereaved family having lost our son back in 2020.
Harry was first diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in November 2019 at York hospital.
He was so poorly that he had to be put into an induced coma and blue lighted to the Leeds General Infirmary. Thankfully he came out of the coma but this was just the start of his journey.
Treatment/chemotherapy had to start straight away along with many blood/platelet transfusions.
In April 2020 Harry and I went back to the LGI for his stem cell transplant. Because it was the height of the covid 19 pandemic we were locked away in a room for nearly two months and couldn't see friends and family. The transplant appeared to go very well and Harry was discharged at the end of May 2020.
Sadly in July 2020 the AML came back aggressively. Harry fought courageously and always with a smile on his face but sadly lost his battle on September 29th 2020 aged 14.
He was a much loved son and big brother/little brother to his siblings Gabi and Alex.
Thank you so much for reading about our journey
Thank you to BSF for this break away.
