Matthew's Story
Matthew's family visited Ben's Retreat in April 2024.
Matthew is a wonderful human being, he's very sweet, kind and a little sarcastic...
In November of 2023, Matthew was a normal 17 year old boy going to college and going to work.
He noticed a lump on his hand and never told me until he noticed a second lump on his chest, we went to the doctors and they performed a blood tests which 2 days later on the 17th of November we found out Matthew had cancer.
The very next day he was called in to have a biopsy, at the same time Matthew was also experiencing some numbness in his legs and it was really scary stuff.
The same day as the biopsy he was admitted to oncology and haematology. He had radiotherapy to his spine because a tumour was pressing against his nerves on his spine which was causing the numbness.
2 days later Matthew started 9 rounds of chemotherapy for 4 different treatments,
Matthew has now completed 7 of those rounds and will soon receiving 5 weeks of radiotherapy to the problem areas which are his hand, his chest, his neck and his spine.
He will always be on some sort of treatment for the rest of his life.
Huge thank you to Jo and Tom at the Ben Saunders foundation for making this break possible, you are very kind.
