Oli's Story
Oli's family visited the Lodge in March 2024.
In July 2021 Oli started complaining of headaches, they became constant and after a few visits to a&e we finally got an mri scan.
This mri scan showed an incurable Glioblastoma brain tumour and we were told Olis prognosis would be about 10 months with standard of care treatment.
Oli underwent a 10 hour brain operation which removed 75% of his tumour, the remaining 25% recieved 6 weeks of daily radiation therapy where Oli lost his hair his appetite and was incredibly sick.
He then began chemo which he was on every month for a week. We frantically fundraised to enable Oli to recieve immunotherapy in Germany and this seemed to hold his tumour back for 20 months.
In March 2023 Oli started experiencing seizures and an mri scan showed his original tumour was still stable but he had 2 new tumours growing, we tried a new chemo drug but the tumours were mutating and Oli was becoming more and more poorly.
Im July 2023 his treatment was all stopped as nothing was having an effect on the tumours and on the 25th August 2023 Oli passed away at home surrounded by his family.
During his treatment Oli also suffered with shingles, sepsis, Covid, kidney stones, amongst others and didn't get a lot of time away from our local hospital for one thing or another, breaks away like the Ben Saunders Foundation are providing are the respite families need.
Sadly Oli never made it to the lodge as became too unwell but we were very kindly invited to stay so we can remember Oli and spend some much needed family time whilst grieving the loss of our legend Oli 💚
