Eddie's Story

Eddie's family visited the Lodge in June 2024.

In November 2022, at just 3 months old, Eddie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

We were back and forth to the GP for a few weeks as we were concerned with vomiting and a bloated stomach.

Eventually we were referred to Gloucester paediatrics where Eddie was diagnosed with leukemia later that evening. The next day we were blue lighted to Bristol, he had his central line fitted and started his treatment.

Our 2 year old daughter coped amazingly well, suddenly being looked after by Grandparents and Dad at home, staying at CLIC house in Bristol on occasion, and not seeing Mum or her new baby brother for a few weeks at a time whilst he was having his initial treatment in Bristol. Spending only a handful of days at home together for the first 9 months.

Eddie has been winning the nurses and doctors over with his cheeky smile and happy personality since day one, even through the roughest of times. We've had to embrace his first Christmas and Birthday in hospital, but the staff made them special for both of our children.

We have now reached the maintenance phase of his treatment, where he is having low dose chemo. We feel like we have some routine and stability back in our family home again.

We are so lucky to have such loving family and friends supporting us on Eddie's journey to ringing the bell.

We are in awe of all the NHS staff who have cared for him and looked after our whole family so well. Thank you so much to this amazing charity Ben Saunders Foundation for allowing us to make some happy holiday memories together!
