Tegan's Story

Tegan's family visited the Lodge in August 2024.

Tegans journey started in 2021 when she found a 50 pence piece bald patch and then within a month most of her hair had fallen out.

Tegan was diagnosed with alopecia areata but they were unsure why it had happened.

Over the following year Tegan was loosing noticeable weight and also getting tired very easily as well.

Tests began and the symptoms pointed to possible diabetes but was soon discounted.

They then started checking her heart as she had abnormal ecg's. Tegan is an athlete and she was an international cheerleader at this point.

Tegan has started to get chest pain shortness of breath we went to a&e they did xrays but thought with the sport she does she has pulled muscles in her chest wall said it would like time to heal and to use ibuprofen.

Tegan carried on competing she went to Barcelona and then onto America to compete at the worlds. Her team came 5th but she nearly collapsed.

She saw the GP again when home and she pushed for further tests. Blood tests showed a possible infection further investigation showed all lymphnodes were lighting up and biopsies showed lymphoma.

We were all in complete shock but Tegan said well there you go a reason for why I feel so terrible whats next.

She has been a shining light throughout this.

The week after she started chemotherapy at addenbrooks. Tegan was adamant she would continuing to train and coach her young athletes even when she was at her worst.

She had a few hiccups on the way having to stay in for a couple weeks here and there.

The halfway pet scan didn't have the results we hoped for which was a bit of a blow to Togan but her boyfriend Kian and her black Ice cheer leading family and her close friends really rallied around to lift her spirits.

Thankfully after another 4 cycles of chemo we finally got the good news. Tegan has carried on doing her college course coming out with a merit. We are so so proud of her.

We also want to say a huge thankyou to the Ben Saunders foundation for allowing us this time to relax
